Here is a sample letter you can use as a template for sending your own letter to Governor Schwarzenegger, at www.gov.ca.gov/interact. Enter your contact information as requested and then choose your subject as Environment - issues/concerns. Letters by mail are even more effective. Faxes should contain the same information as below (including the attention line) and faxed to 916-558-3160. The Honorable Arnold Schwarzenegger Governor, State of California State Capitol, First Floor Sacramento, CA 95814 Attn: Legislative Affairs: Request for Signature Dear Governor Schwarzenegger, We urge you to pass SB-428. The City of San Diego is in dire financial straights, and City Council voted almost unanimously to ask the State to pass legislation to amend the 1931 Tidelands Grant. The State Senate passed the bill by an overwhelming majority, and the Assembly is certain to pass it too. The change in the wording will save the City millions and will cost the State NO MONEY AT ALL!! It will also prevent this NMFS-recognized rookery from being destroyed. The seals are a major tourist attraction which brings untold millions to the City and draws tourists from around the world for an opportunity to see the seals in their natural environment without their disrupting their behavior. Please sign SB-428. Otherwise the City of San Diego's financial crisis will cost taxpayers millions of dollars it cannot afford and further strain the City's budget. Most importantly, if this bill is not passed, future generations will be deprived of this unique educational opportunity to see and learn about wildlife in an urban setting. It is the ONLY harbor seal rookery in southern California with easy beach access. As you know, many children already suffer from a "nature deficit disorder," and the destruction of our natural resources must stop. Sincerely, Your name About Harbor Seals | The Docent Program | History | Controversy
